Along with the highly anticipated iPhone, Apple Watch is also one of the company's flagship products that gets a yearly update, and we can expect the Series 9 to be announced later this year. We have some exciting details to share about the upcoming Apple Watch Series 9. So, what can we expect from Apple's latest wearable device? Read on to find out.

Evolutionary Upgrades

Last year, Apple focused on developing its larger-sized Apple Watch Ultra, which resulted in fewer new features for the standard Series 8 model. Similarly, this year, rumors suggest that we may see smaller incremental upgrades to the Series 9, while the company focuses on its future technology.

Performance Boost

The Apple Watch Series 8 boasts an S8 chip, which is the same as the S7 chip found in the Series 7 and S6 chip in the Series 6, offering almost similar performance. While there have been no significant improvements to the Apple Watch processor in recent years, the Series 9 may come with an updated S9 chip with minor tweaks to enhance the device's performance.

Bluetooth 5.3

The Apple Watch Ultra now features Bluetooth 5.3, which might also get integrated into the Series 9 in 2023, as Apple slowly rolls out the latest Bluetooth standard across its product line.

Battery Life

While an improved processor could boost the battery life of the Apple Watch, we don't expect any significant enhancements. However, Apple may leverage the efficiency boost to introduce additional always-on display functionality or other minor feature tweaks.

What Else to Expect?

Besides a new chip, the Series 9 may have a similar feature set as the Series 8, as we outlined in our Apple Watch roundup. But, who knows, there might be a surprise feature or two!

Apple Watch Ultra and SE

The Apple Watch Ultra is a recent addition to the company's wearable lineup, and it remains unclear if it will get an annual refresh. There are rumors of a 2024 model, but we don't know what Apple has planned for the Ultra just yet. On the other hand, the SE model was updated in 2022, so we don't expect a refresh this year.

Future Innovations

While we may not have much to look forward to with the Series 9, Apple is working on several groundbreaking technologies that could debut in future Apple Watch models, such as a custom-designed microLED display, larger display for the Ultra version, and non-invasive blood glucose monitoring.

Release Date

As is customary, Apple will most likely launch the Series 9 alongside the new iPhone models in September and make it available for purchase a week or two later.

So, that's what we know so far about the Apple Watch Series 9. While it may not be the most significant upgrade, Apple's wearable device remains one of the best smartwatches in the market. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting device!
